(. jump then fall .)Beautiful, glitzy, wonderful California: this is what the world pictures when they think America. The choppy Pacific ocean, the impressive sun, and that oppressive warmth for most of the year; what is there not to love? If any place is perfect, it’s California.
But the city of Eureka is different. Walking along the old picturesque streets, it's easy to think perhaps you've travelled back to the Victorian era. Homes and stores from the nineteenth century give the city an undeniable charm and a beautiful facade, drawing tourists from the west coast and beyond. The salty scent of the bay constantly lingers in this peaceful town, skirted by the larger than life California Redwoods.
This is, of course, what the tourists see. For those that live here it just becomes everyday to see the old buildings and natural beauty all around the city. In the less picturesque parts of town it is just like anywhere else. Like in any small town where everyone seems to know everyone there is plenty of drama. If you can't remember what you did last night you can bet someone else does; just ask around a little. Vacationers come and go in Eureka with its thriving tourism industry, but life goes on for Eureka's residents. The question is, are you ready for it?
